Humane Education
The Canine Literacy Project is an extension of the Orange County SPCA’s award-winning pet-assisted therapy program. It is designed to help reduce children’s anxiety in reading aloud, to improve their reading skills, and to make reading fun. In the reading environment, therapy animals create the same atmosphere our volunteer/pet teams experience in healthcare settings, offering a calm, accepting, non-judgmental presence. Each child is presented with a new book of their very own. Donations and book store gift cards are always welcome.

Community Outreach
The Telephone Help Line (714-374-7738) offers advice and referrals on every aspect of animal related concerns, from pets to wildlife.
Publications of animal welfare literature are available for distribution at shelter open houses, dog and cat shows, and community events.
Presentations to local groups such as chambers of commerce, youth and service organizations, and at animal welfare conferences.
Through representation on the Orange County shelter advisory board, membership in state and national advocacy organizations, and networking with local animal welfare groups, the Orange County SPCA works toward the common goal of the betterment of animals everywhere.
